I’ve spent most of the day thinking about Scott Epstein. The news this morning that he had died in a late night car crash came as a total shock and brought back a flood of memories. I have read the comments posted here and throughout social media and the common thread is that Scott loved the wrestling business probably more than anybody I ever met.
I had a number of dealings with Scott over the last 10-12 years. He would call when he planned to visit our tapings in Florida, or when he had a booking for one of the TNA wrestlers, or sometimes just to say hello.
Last year, when I was hospitalized, one day the nurse came in and said “Somebody ordered room service”. Scott and Bill Apter had ordered practically everything on the menu from a local deli and had it delivered to the hospital. It was totally unexpected and helped brighten my day at a time I needed a lift.
Last week, when I flew to New York City to take a cruise, I put something on Twitter about being in NYC for a day before leaving on the cruise. Within minutes, I received a note from Scott letting me know he was in the area if I needed anything. “Glad to have you in town. If you need anything feel free to hollar at me…am on Long Island but half hour from Manhattan and will be around.” That was SO Scott.
He was absolutely one of the nicest people you would ever hope to meet. It’s a real shame that bad things happen to good people. They say there’s a reason for everything. It’s hard to understand what the reason is when something like this happens to someone you know. The best we can do is to cherish the time spent with him and to remember the wonderful things he did to help people in our industry.
